Salvia sclarea
"Native to Western Asia and Southern and Central Europe, this biennial herbaceous plant of the Lamiaceae family is widely cultivated in temperate countries as an ornamental plant but mainly to produce an essential oil used in the manufacture of liqueurs or perfumes. Sage was one of the saving plants of the Middle Ages. The Greeks, Romans, and Arabs commonly used it as a tonic and compress against snakebites. Egyptian women used to drink sage juice to increase their fertility. ""Whoever has sage in his garden does not need a doctor"" (provencal saying)."
